Since Ativan addiction usually stems from a legitimate doctor's prescription for a real medical condition in the beginning, many people take it without much consideration to the possible long term consequences. Once Ativan addiction has set in, a serious detox program must be used to get the patient off of the drug.

With most addictions, the addict will eventually end up going through some variety of detox followed by therapy to hopefully uncover the deep rooted reasons they fell into the addictive behavior to begin with. Then you have heroin addiction.
